I created this painting for the Art-A-Whirl Silent Auction this past May. It has underlying texture created with acrylic modeling paste, acrylic paint, gold leaf and collaged block printed images. Alas it didn’t sell. So still for sale 36″ x 36″ with gallery wrapped edges No fame is needed $1600.
An Artful Life
My name is Norma Hanlon. I am a visual artist working in several media.
I create mixed media paintings using acrylic paint, textured surfaces, collage block printed images, golf and silver leaf and other papers.
I also create ceramic sculptures, mostly figurative, usually whimsical.
I emboss sheet copper with a small rotary press. The embossed copper is then mounted on wood and I apply a liquid patina to the metal to give it an aged look.
I live in Minneapolis near Lake Harriet.

Creating Art Without Fear
I recently read this statement and wanted to share it:
“A wise man once said to me that the artist must practice heroic self-indulgence. Making art requires enormous amounts of time, let alone thinking about it, writing about it and running the business of it. In this, I strive to be true to myself and make what I am drawn to make, letting go of what might please a teacher I once had, or what will be likely to sell, or even what might be considered beautiful or clever or important. It’s the process of inner exploration that keeps me moving forward.” Quoted from Sara Swink’s website
I hope that these ideas will propel me forward as I continue to create art in the last past of my life. Creating Art Without Fear!
